Derrick Rose already makes the difference for Knicks

After the blowout victory against the Houston Rockets, the Knicks are already bearing the fruit of Derrick Rose’s impact in the second unit.

The former MVP offers exactly what Tom Thibodeau need from his bench, steady scoring and an on-court leadership, when the starters rest.

The Knicks were 18th in bench points per 100 possessions prior to the Derrick Rose deal last weekend. They were scoring 55.5 points averaging a minus-1.8 in 345 minutes this season.

Whereas, in the last three games, where Rose came off the bench, the Knicks outscored their opponents by 17.2 points per 100 possessions scoring 82.6 points.

Tom Thibodeau’s team is among the top squads in the defensive end allowing the fewest opponent’s points per game, however Rose change the balance of the equation adding a much-needed scoring option to the team.

Rose registers 14.7 points in his first three games with the Knicks shooting 54.8-percent from the field and 42.6-percent on 2.3 attempts from three-point range.

The Perfect Fit

Rose averages 20.9 minutes per contest coming off the bench alongside Alec Burks and Immanuel Quickley. The Knicks are on a plus-34.3 on 59 minutes of Rose and Quickley in their lineup with both them combining for 50.4 points per 36 minutes.

Tom Thibodeau’s team is also on a plus-32.7 in 62 minutes with Rose and Burks on the floor. Rose ability to put the ball in the floor and attack the paint with his explosiveness helps Quickley to find open shots. Also, Burks elite ability in the defensive end is certainly cover for Rose in the defensive side of the ball.

The three-man combination of Rose, Burks and Quickley scores 120 points per 100 possessions when they are taking the floor outscoring their opponents by a plus-34.3 net rating in 59 minutes of play so far. While, it’s pretty obvious that we are talking on a small sample size, if the Knicks remain health they can be a Top-6 team in the Eastern Conference.

Even without their starting center Mitchell Robinson available, the Knicks might be on their way to return to the postseason, after a long hiatus away from playoff basketball and Derrick Rose may be instrumental in the Knicks’ established winning culture this season.
