Atlanta Hawks are parting ways with head coach Lloyd Pierce, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. After a promising start on the 2020/21 campaign, the Hawks gradually had a drop in their winning percentage.
They lost several winnable games against rebuilding teams like the OKC Thunder and the Cleveland Cavaliers having a 14-20 record heading to the All-Star Break.
Their record is the 11th best in the Eastern Conference being two and a half games out of the 8th seed and 3 wins away from the 6th seed.
Pierce, 44, signed a three-year deal with an option for a fourth season back in 2018. He had been an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers for several seasons before that.
He compiled a 63-120 record in two-plus seasons with the Hawks. He is the second head coach to dismissed this season, after Minnesota’s Ryan Saunders.
